Mezcal is a hugely diverse spirit. Agave variety, terroir, season, region, production style and mezcalero (among a myriad of other things) all play their part.
Our new Edición X Especial range is our chance to showcase some of this diversity and to share some of the rarer and more unusual mezcals that the Cortés family make.
The first release in the range is a beautiful Tobalá made by Felipe and Ageo back in December 2022.
Ageo explains that as Tobalá is a maguey of the Sierra mountains, the higher humidity and lack of sun means the plants are very slow growing. A fully mature Tobalá can take over 10 years to reach a couple of feet. They nickname it “asombrillado” on account of the shaded conditions they grow in.
Only 150 bottles. An extra special mezcal.
